Imagine you’re at Disneyland. The heat is sweltering, your icecream is perfectly cold and sweet, and somewhere to your left, a costumed Goofy is doing the Hot Dog Dance. You and your family are frantically searching for your next activity for the day. You’re surrounded by endless attractions, whether it be rides, food stalls, or parades, all clamouring for your attention. You can’t possibly visit them all at once, and depending on the time of day, some are open, others are closed, and a few are available only to guests with a coveted fast-pass. Now, zoom inward– way inward– until your body becomes the park.... What do you see?
Yesterday, I had a dream that I was in a waterpark… swarming with half-human, half-seafood creatures, while being chased down slippery slides and across an ocean that felt like hardened jelly by a turtle-dentist wielding jagged scissors. Naturally I can't help but wonder where this strange dream came from. Why do I dream about my crush one night and a deranged turtle-dentist the next? Whatpr’s up with this twisted dichotomy of dream logic, and why does it all make perfect sense while sleeping? What does it all mean? Why can’t I remember anything afterwards? How do dreams even work? Let's find out....
In almost all animals the sense of smell is vital to find food, detect danger and identify family members. For example, sharks and other fish have nostrils that allow them to smell underwater even though they have gills and mouths to breathe through. Smell is an important sense used in our daily life but how does it work in humans? How do we smell different foods, drinks, fragrances or good/ bad odors?
